My work.
I’ve been fortunate in my career to be charged with many challenging, high-impact, customer-facing projects. My role as a design leader has required me to work at the executive level, influencing across many disciplines to communicate a strategic vision for the work while guiding and empowering my teams to create innovative solutions. While my recent experience is rooted in large, enterprise organizations I have facilitated and led teams through the ideation phase for many new products, working closely with product and engineering partners to research, prototype and launch.
Compass
At Compass I led the Core Experiences design team. That encompasses the Compass Design System team, the Identity team and the Payments team. These teams all build platforms and services for our internal feature teams and ensure that our overall platform experience is consistent and high-quality.
Results:
Evolved the Compass Design System into a fully functional product embedded deeply across the Compass real estate platform. Directed documentation site project that resulted in the creation of over 150 pages of system guidelines serving design and engineering across web, iOS and Android.
Led the redesign and reconfiguration of Figma design libraries for web, Android and iOS. Directed the creation of an education curriculum to speed the usage of the design system as well as level up designers and developers in their understanding of Figma.
Capital One
During the first two years of my time at Capital One, I helped to transition the siloed Credit Card organization into a unified enterprise servicing platform. I worked closely with my partners in Product & Engineering, as well as across the Bank, Auto and Home Loan divisions of the company to ensure a high quality user experience.
The second half of my career at Capital One, I led the creation, maturation and adoption of Capital One’s global design system. To accomplish this I worked with executives across Design, Product and Engineering to communicate the business value of and strategy for establishing a foundational, accessible and unified code-based design system.
Results:
Secured business investment in the design system team, enabling 2x team growth across design and development skillsets.
Coded components enabled Capital One developers to build front-end experiences 400% faster.
Marketing implementations of the design system resulted in a 25% increase CTA on product pages.
On-brand and unified customer experiences within and across platforms.
Instituted custom agile workflows and Jira-based documentation consistently improving team efficiency by 125% sprint over sprint.
Gannett & USA TODAY
Gannett is the parent company of USA TODAY and 100+ local media properties. As the Director of Product Design at Gannett I played a key role in the Digital Transformation initiatives, moving from a print-centric revenue model to a focus on web, native and social media. I worked closely with VP+ level executives and stakeholders, leading a team of more than 20 designers to create modular, unified experiences that are seen by more than 100MM people every month.
Results:
Coordinated work across both agency and in-house teams to implement a full multi-platform redesign of core USA TODAY and local digital products.
Created a component-based design system connected to a custom in-house publishing CMS, enabling the consolidation of digital teams across 100+ properties.
Created custom advertising products that created over 1M in additional revenue.
Regularly facilitated new product ideation jams for executive stakeholder review.
Veterans Affairs/DoD - eBenefits
While consulting at Ironworks, I was responsible for the branding, design and development of eBenefits, a website that provides Service Members, Veterans, their families, and authorized caregivers with a single sign-on, central access point to clinical and benefits information.
As a design leader, my work is usually the cumulative result of a team working across disciplines.
The highlighted works above are a sampling of projects I’ve been involved with throughout my career. I’m happy to share more details or additional case studies of work; please get in touch with me if you’re interested in seeing more.
